Almost 15 years have passed since I cracked the spine of Kerouac's classic "On the Road", and ever since then, rumours have been circulating about a big screen adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Just a few months ago I heard they were starting pre-production. Will the movie capture the spirit of the Beat Generation. I doubt it. If they cast correctly they should at least go with lesser known actors. None of these salt and soap actors grinning from ear to ear.
I know he's in his 80's now but I always thought Paul Newman would have made an ideal Dean Moriarty. Maybe they should make a what-if movie about Sal and Dean, 50 years later.
